Plan layers for a changing golf day

Balance movement, temperature and space in the bag.

2 minute read · Updated September 17, 2026

Plan for the forecast across the whole round rather than only the starting temperature. A simple layering system lets you adjust without changing the fit of every garment. Check the course’s dress expectations and any published garment instructions.

Work through it

  1. Choose a base outfit that allows a full swing. Add a light layer that fits over it without tightening the shoulders or sleeves.
  2. Consider wind and rain separately from temperature. Confirm the stated weather properties of the outer layer instead of assuming that all lightweight fabrics repel water.
  3. Practice taking layers on and off and packing them. Keep the items you are likely to need accessible without unpacking the whole bag.

Check your result

  • Layers do not restrict the swing.
  • Weather properties are checked.
  • The packed outfit is manageable.
